About Hanlie
Welcome to my blog!

August 2009
My name is Hanlie, I am 40 years old and live in Cape Town, South Africa. I have a wonderful husband, Craig, two gorgeous rescued cats, Lavis and Pepper and a Basset puppy named Maggie.
In 2007 I embarked on a journey towards health, fitness, fertility, and a happy weight. I don’t just want to be lean and fit, I want to lower my risk of developing any kind of degenerative disease, live with total vitality and without the many ailments we accept as normal in our society. And I want to have a baby.
I’d been interested for some time in nutrition and lifestyle and how they relate to health, healing and the prevention of disease. I spend a lot of time reading and researching the subject.
Recently I’ve come to appreciate that I need to incorporate emotional, mental and spiritual awareness in order to attain the life I desire. This has opened up a whole new world of possibility and growth for me.
My diet has evolved to a whole foods, predominantly plant-based, high raw way of eating. I exercise regularly, but not obsessively. I spend time in the sun most days, drink plenty of water, engage in positive self-talk, ensure that I get enough sleep and try to live in the present moment. Life is simple and good.
I count blessings instead of calories. I’m spectacularly disinterested in measuring my weight or body parts and am instead trusting my lifestyle and commitment to wholeness in every aspect of my being to allow my body to evolve to its natural, balanced shape.
This blog has evolved with me over time. What I wrote a year, or even a month ago, may no longer be true for me today. That is a good thing!
Ultimately, I love life, and I’m trying to live it as authentically and gracefully as possible, keeping in mind that my personal choices have a far wider impact than I can ever see or appreciate.
