I had a wonderful week! You may remember that it started out rocky, but with your help I managed to pull it back together and I’m happy to report that I’m down 1.5 pounds this week. It’s not enough to get me out of the 300’s, but I’m pleased!
Eating has been mostly good. Yesterday we had lunch at the house of the parents of a friend, so we ate off-plan, but the company was great, so it doesn’t matter and I’m hitting the green smoothies hard today. I also made sure that we had a super-healthy breakfast (fruit & nut shake) before heading out yesterday. This past week we’ve had great weather – perfect for salads, so we had less cooked food than is usual for us in winter time.
I’m very pleased with my exercise last week. Apart from the usual aqua classes, I had some great treadmill workouts. A few weeks ago I was walking a kilometer in 12 minutes and a mile in 18 minutes. Well, this past week I managed to get under 10 minutes on the kilometer and just under 16 minutes on the mile by doing intervals. The challenge is still to get the mile done in 15 minutes or less. On Saturday I decided to skip the treadmill and walk a kilometer in the pool instead – 40 lengths! I could barely walk yesterday!
Mizfit (not many of my posts escape a reference to MizFit – I learn so much from her!) always talks about play-outs – getting some exercise while playing with your kids. Well, not having a kid has sort of scuppered my play-out opportunities, but yesterday I had access to a kid and boy, did I have a great time on the swings! I have to admit that I didn’t go very high, not because I’m afraid of heights, but remember, I still weigh over 300 pounds and I didn’t want to fall too far if the chains should happen to snap! I don’t recall swinging being such good exercise… My already tender legs were howling and it definitely worked my core too! I’m seriously considering getting a cardboard cut-out kid and looking for a park near where I live where I can go and swing to my heart’s content. I felt so free! (And no Miz, they didn’t have monkey bars!)
I noticed a strange thing last week… Whenever exerted myself I tasted nicotine. Ugh! That can only mean one thing… I’m burning “older” fat now and the toxins are being released and expelled. Good riddance I say! And bring on the fat burning!
I’ve delved out some very nice clothes that my friend Charlotte gave me when she was losing weight. She’s involved in an exclusive plus size clothing line, so there are some really nice things there. I’m about 5-10 pounds away from fitting into some of them! Exciting! Of course, I’m once again following the Apache model of weight loss – a patchy here and a patchy there, so my body is all over the place. I think I’m about three different sizes at the moment, depending on which part of my body we’re talking about. Needless to say, the belly and hips are still making their last stand and haven’t budged as much as the rest. I’m not too perturbed… as long as I’m shrinking, I’m happy! I had to buy some new panties this morning and one of these days my bras will have to be replaced too!
I have decided that this is the week that I will get below 300 pounds! Can somebody please second that motion?
And don’t forget, today is Meatless Monday! Here is a great video about this campaign.
Go here to make the pledge.
Have a fabulous week! I’ll come and check how you’ve done…

Me! I’ll second that … you are SO CLOSE to getting out of the 300’s w00t!
Awesome stuff
I know what you mean about the different sizes thing – I’m exactly the same – and it’s one of the reasons I detest clothes shopping! It’s impossible to find stuff that fits me properly.

Congrats on the loss!
That’s interseting about tasting nicotine. I get that sensation every so often, too, and I’ve wondered why. It’s been more than 10 years since I smoked.

@SeaShore: Toxins get stored in our fat cells. When the fat cells are being used up the toxins are released back into the bloodstream and if the system is running efficiently (i.e. not being overburdened with additional toxins), they will be eliminated through the lungs, skin, bowels, kidneys and sometimes even the sinuses. I have heard of people who have tasted medication that they’d used more than 20 years before…
You can do it! What a great week it’s been for you. You’re motoring along! And the clothes are always excellent added motivation

Congrats on your loss!!!
I am floored to read that you are tasting nicotine. It’s great that you’re finally getting that out of your system.
You’re kicking some serious butt here! Yay!

I will second that motion! You will get out of 300’s and fit into those new clothes!
I remember well getting out of the 300’s, and into the 200’s! Those were exciting days, and then came the rest!
You can do it. Also, swinging is harder than I remembered too. No wonder kids are so slim!

Congrats – you’re doing great!!
Have you tried upping the gradient on the treadmill, I find that helps a lot to the amount of km’s being covered but then that might just be wishful thinking on my part.
I wish I could do half the things my boys do. Sometimes when doing Yoga, I say to myself – geesh Josh would be doing this pose and telling me to ‘just do it Mom’ LOL
Loved your weigh-in pic today – too cute!!
Have a fantastic week.
Hugs
You’re a trooper, Hanlie!
Say “Sayonara! Adios! Good Riddance!” to the 300s.
How ’bout a four-legged fur kid? Lots more fun than a cardboard cut-out. Maya is my bestest walking, hiking, roller blading partner! I think a visit to your local Humaine Society is in order.
@earthmother: I’d love to get a smallish dog, but our security estate doesn’t allow dogs, unless you fence in your property. We’re renting at the moment, so it’s not an option, but we’ll probably buy again next year and then I’m totally getting a dog.
Good for you on your continued loss. I’m all in for meatless Monday. What a great idea.

I am actually a bit shocked that you can actually taste nicotine. My God all those toxins really do a number in our cells don’t they.
And yay for Meatless Monday

I’ll second your under 300 this week motion!
I wish I had read this before lunch (I had chicken on my salad), but I’m taking the meatless Monday pledge! And — totally agree with you about the swings. I swing a bit in the park by my house on the way home from my walks. And I’m always disappointed when there are children on the swings. Shouldn’t children have to wait until at least 8 a.m. before hitting the park??

Way to go, Hanlie! You are sooo close to getting out of the 300s forever!
I second your motion to get out of the 300s as well! Can’t wait to see your progress next week. I know you can do it!
Keep up the good work. You will be in those smaller size clothes in no time!

Sounds like you had a great week. I think your cardboard cutout kid is a good idea. I’ve always loved the swings, but I would feel awkward doing them by myself.
@JM: Did you see the movie “Lars and the Real Girl”? I could be “Hanlie and the Real Kid”!
I second the motion! You are going to be under 300 before you know it! Congrats on the loss this week!
You are really doing great, Hanlie. I am so happy for you! You’ll have to model some of those pretty clothes for us when you get into them… which will be real soon by the way it sounds. Keep up the good work!
Woohoo! Heading under 300! I’m looking forward to that day myself! I’ve got about 40 pounds to go to get there.
