When I reach goal…

JM from Finally Getting Fit posed the following question this morning:

What is the first thing you’ll do when you get to your goal weight?

I had to think about that one!  One would think that I’d have a list of things that I would want to do, but I don’t think it’s going to work like that.

Firstly, I’m not exactly sure what my goal weight is.  I’ve got a number in my head, somewhere between 150-155 pounds, but that could well be about 10 pounds too low.  I’m just going to trust myself to recognize it when I get there.  A number on the scale is not really the driving factor here.  Ultimately I want to be lean and heavy with muscle.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman prefers to guage his patients’ ideal weight using waist circumference and abdominal fat measurements, because BMI can be inaccurately high if the person is athletic and muscular.  Generally, for optimal health and longevity, a man should not have more than one-half inch of skin that he can pinch near his belly button and a woman should not have more than an inch.

Furthermore, my goals are pretty much to eat very healthy and exercise, thereby balancing my hormones, losing weight and getting fit and fertile.  Goal weight to me is not really a destination, it’s a must-see attraction on my journey.  The journey doesn’t end there.  And that number may be fairly elastic…  pregnancy will see it change at least once.  The day that I reach that magic number will be no different than any other.  I’ll probably get off the scale, brush my teeth and go work out, albeit with a big smile on my face!

I’ve always wanted a pair of drop-dead gorgeous cowboy boots and maybe that would be the ideal reward, somewhere towards the end of the journey, for my hard work and dedication.

But I think the perfect gift to myself would be to book a glam photo-session and have myself professionally coiffed and made-up for it.  I may even pose for a few tasteful nudes… like the Calendar Girls.  That should spice things up on my blog!

What would you do?

I love the idea of the photo shoot. I would do a nude and hang it in my living room!! LOL

I’m not sure what I will do when I reach goal. Probably buy a sexy pair of jeans and go out on the town with the hubby!!

I really have never thought of that, of what I would do, and that is a TOUGH question. But I honestly REALLY like the idea of the photo shoot. (Even the nude!) That would also be a great keepsake that will help to motivate to maintain the new you. Great Idea!

I would love to have a professional mother/children pic done outdoors! I think I would also take a day at the spa ;)

Go shopping!

So many choices!!! I want to go for something I’ve never done because I felt too self conscious about my weight. Maybe indoor rock climbing, snowboarding, indoor skydiving, or trying on a great outfit and walking out of the dressing room in it to check myself out in the mirror in the store!

I’m not sure what I will do when I finally get there. But, I do know I need to have a plan as to keep myself there or I may find myself doing this all over again.

I love your idea of photos…

Jeanne, I have many things that I will start doing as the weight comes down. For instance, once I get below 220 pounds I want to start horse riding again. I definitely want to ski and canoe, but I dont have to wait for my goal weight to be able to do those things. Life doesn’t start with a number on a scale… The journey IS life and I won’t let it pass me by. When I get under 200 pounds, I will not even look fat anymore, since I have a large frame and “carry it well”.

For the same reason, I will already have clothes that fit, so I don’t think I’d really go shopping to mark the occasion. I’m one of those rare women who don’t really like shopping and I get by with only three pairs of shoes for the season.

A spa day sounds divine… Maybe I should have one before my photo-shoot!

Get a tummy tuck!!!! And maybe a boob lift too!

Deb, I fully intend to have a boob lift, but only once I’ve had and nursed my babies! As for the tummy tuck, we’ll see if that’s necessary, given that I do Pilates four times per week and am likely to continue that trend for a long time to come.

boots for yourself – nude photo’s for your husband!

(that way you get both, hee hee)

Nice answer! I love the idea of a photo shoot! I think I’ll definitely do that – with my husband. :)

I thought youd say one simple word:

DANCE.

Having journeyed the journey you are on I will say that “once you get to goal” is a sad thing we set ourselves up with like its a magic number and life will *poof* become perfect.

You will get to a great place way before you will get to goal. My best advice to people looking to ‘goal’ to be the wonder place ( not that you asked of course lol ) would be not to set the dreams to happen “at goal” but that you want to do when you are thinner.

Goal is usually a number we pick on the scale. I am 23lbs from ‘goal’ and trust me there are numbers way before goal that, that I have celebrated. When I got down to a normal size all of a sudden what I thought I would only feel at goal (150lbs) I was feeling at 199lbs and 180lbs and even now around 170lbs. I cant wait to see 150lb on the scale but lol I realize now that what I thought was my goal was not really my ‘true’ goal, it was just a number on the scale.

My ‘true’ goal was reached as soon as I started living again. Being a good Mom and wife and enjoying getting up to another wonderous day. Goal was when I felt better about me. Goal was when I could see a future in me again. Goal turned out not to be a number on the scale but a true feeling of being happy again.

Buy the boots when you fit into them, not when the scale says its ok. As for the glam shots lol I am going to lay money that you will have those done before you reach your set goal *grin*.

=0)

P.S. I just wanted to say I am so super proud of all your working out and your eating healthy. Is just exciting to see each and every little tweet about what you are doing next, how far you have gone and how happy you seem to be doing it.

Felicia, this is exactly what I was telling my mom this afternoon. There’s not much I can do at 155 pounds that I can’t start doing at 200 pounds already…

I have one, but not willing to share it quite yet. But the other? My trainer has promised me a margarita! LOL…I know…I know…silly. My sis has promised to finance any surgeries I will need (boob lift, tummy tuck…etc). As for me…what will I do for myself? Maybe a trip abroad, but I’d be just as happy going to the beach in a bikini.

My first reward (probably at my 1/2 way mark) is to get the two tattoos I’ve been wanting for ages.

My second reward is EXACTLY what you’re talking about. I have a friend who is a photographer in Richmond, and she specializes in vintage style pinup photography. I’m taking my Mom to go with me, and we’re gonna get sexy photos done!

Her website is http://www.twilightimages.net for anyone in the Richmond area, or otherwise – once you see her stuff you won’t want to shoot with anyone else. :) ((Look at her blog – it has her La Femme Noir work.))
