Ve haf vork to do
As promised, I had some tests done today to test my cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. I was fortunate to find a pharmacy in the area with a nursing sister who does these tests, so that I didn’t have to make arrangements with my bank manager in order to go to the doctor (my medical aid is only a hospital plan).
I really thought my blood pressure would be much worse. As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been feeling odd lately, especially after drinking coffee. It feels as if there’s a band of pressure around my head, especially in the temple area and I feel sort of dizzy. I have now stopped drinking coffee, which is always a good thing, especially once the withdrawel headaches are gone - in my case within 2 days. I’m already sleeping better. But I still had these visions of my husband finding me on the floor, unconscious and maimed from a massive stroke. After taking my blood pressure, at least I am more assured that that probably won’t happen any minute now. My blood pressure this morning was 145/90, with normal being 120/80. I’m sure with the Eat To Live program, I will soon be much closer to normal.
We also tested my fasting cholesterol and fasting triglycerides.
My cholesterol was high - 5.63 mmol/l (220 mg/dl). I aim to bring it down to under 4 mmol/l (150 mg/dl) with Dr. Fuhrman’s program.
My triglycerides were equally high - 3.16 mmol/l (281 mg/dl). This number needs to be halved.
Let’s see how long it takes to get there!

I have been off coffee at work for a week now and I feel so much better for it! I still have the occasional coffee on the weekend, but none at work, which used to account for at least 6-7 cups a week!
Well done for getting the tests done. You can do it!

The good thing is that you went and got checked out. So many just don’t want to know - cause if they don’t know, then there isn’t a problem. Good for you for taking control!

I’m glad you got checked. If you find that diet alone doesn’t bring down your cholesterol and triglycerides, you might want to try taking a red rice yeast supplement, I know several people who have had excellent results using it.
We are on our way to better health!

Hanlie your progress sounds great! I am so happy you have decided to try Dr.Fuhrman’s program. I find his book and his wisdom a true gem in today’s society.
Best of all I love his nutrient dense, blended soups. I have started to eat vegetables I would never have imagined and now love since I blend them and don’t have to worry about chewing strings or tasting bitterness, etc. So now I have started my own soup combinations and they are all low on calories but so nutrient dense!
Anyhow wish you lots of willpower to stick with the program - I know you will have great success!

You rock! I love the way you take the bull by the horns. Your posts are very inspiring. And the fact that you are down 20 lbs. from last year is totally awesome, too. Enjoy your new plan!

I need to get those tests done as well. I’m kind of scared to do it, to be honest. :S I bet it’s nice to know the actual numbers to help motivate you to work, huh?

Good for you on getting these tests done! Did they say why the coffee was causing that symptom? Good luck on getting all your numbers down!
