Healthy You Challenge Check-In
It was a good week!
I walked every day for my “Walking Off Weight” program. Some days I almost had to bribe myself, because a) I’m lazy and b) I don’t enjoy walking around my neighborhood. When the sessions get longer I’m definitely going to do them on a treadmill at gym. Some days my hips and back hurt while I’m walking, but I know that will get better.
I’ve increased the amount of water I’m drinking and am down to two cups of coffee per day. No soda. I did have a glass of wine one evening. Sigh.
I’ve also increased my fruit intake and we’re having salad for supper most evenings. It makes a big difference to the quality of sleep to go to bed on a “light” stomach.
Obviously, there’s still a lot of room for improvement, but I don’t feel miserable or deprived. Baby steps, remember?
Ps. Got a message from my cousin last night. She got married in April this year and has just found out that she’s pregnant. I’m happy for her, but feeling a bit “left behind” today.

Hey Hanlie, the very first and most important step to motherhood is to learn to mother yourself, nourishing yourself and being so very sweet and soft and tender and caring towards yourself. Most mommies don’t get the opportunity to realize and learn this before their babies arrive … It might not mean much on a feeling-left-behind-day, but you are BLESSED for being granted the opportunity to learn this FIRST before your baby enters your life.
I learnt this the hard way only AFTER my baby arrived (& I’m still learning) and consequently struggled for two and a half years with postpartum depression. Two and a half years of my child’s life I can only remember vaguely because I was in such a grey fog.
You are on that wonderful journey right now, taking care of yourself, learning about baby steps. You are in a *GOOD* place, girlfriend. Just think how well equipped you are going to be! =)
Hugs to you, and wow, congratulations on a good week!
Love,
Pippa

Hey Hanlie
Congratulations on your fitness routine and cutting down on the coffee. That is a real tough one that I keep going back to.
You are going to be a great mom. Your day is coming!

Baby steps are DEFINITELY the way and it sounds like you’re doing beautifully! Keep up the good work!
Your day is definitely coming…but hugs, anyway, for the left-behind feeling. I think it’s very hard sometimes…

Hanlie - I feel the lower energy in your post, but I also see the light in you that is …at the end of the tunnel!
Good for you for walking, as you know the more we do something, the more it becomes a habit and before you know it, it will become a habit and you may actually wake up very soon one day and be looking forward to it

I’ve never wanted children, but I do understand the ‘left behind’ feeling. Your day will come.
