Bring it on!
Posted on Apr 17, 2008 under Heart, Soul and Mind |Anything I’ve ever done that ultimately was worthwhile…initially scared me to death. ~ Betty Bender
We can do anything we set our minds to. I have been Juice Feasting for 77 days. So many people have told me that they “could never do that”. You don’t know that! But if you tell yourself that, you make it your truth.
I am learning to believe that I can do anything. And I wouldn’t exchange this knowledge for anything in the world. If a fairy godmother were to visit me tonight and tell me that I can wake up at goal tomorrow, I’d have to decline. I don’t need fairy godmothers. I can and I want to do this myself! I want to change my life. I want to learn the lessons. I want to grow. I want to heal. I don’t care how long it takes. I don’t even care what the scale says. I know when I’m losing weight. I know that I’m getting fitter and stronger, because I challenge my body every day.
My primary goal is not weight loss. My primary goal is to change my life to one of abundant health and vitality. And fertility. We want to grow our own organic food. We want to do physical work. These are not means to an end - they are the end.
Someone asked me whether, with that level of health, one would just die of natural causes. Barring accidents, yes! But I am less concerned about how I’m going to die and more concerned with the quality of my life. I want to be robust and active, without degenerative diseases until the very end. How many people over sixty do you know who have no medical conditions, not even high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol? How many people in their 80’s and 90’s are still active and in possession of all their faculties?
I intend to be. You can too!

My grandmother just turned 90 last week. She is healthy, happy, and still walks three miles every day, rain or shine, and even shovels snow (she lives in New England). I have no doubt that a good part of her health (and my grandfather’s, he’s 95) is due to the fact that she grows and makes about 90% of her own food. And nothing that is store bought is processed food. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
Great post, very upbeat.

Oh Hanlie….You are so inspirational. You put all my feelings into a nut shell. I am so amazed at your journey and you are getting so much closer to the end of your 92 days! It’s really going by quickly now, isn’t it?

I love that quote and can very much relate to it. Isn’t it an amazing feeling to do things that you at one point never thought you could do or that you feared doing? LOVE IT!

I’ve learned that I can do anything I want to do, my choices are mine and my life is worth making the good choices for. Great post Hanlie!

Rawk and Roll Girl! You are such an inspiration! I miss you! I’ve been so crazy busy. I really want to talk again soon. I might be able to get on the computer the same time tomorrow as last week so if you are available maybe we will hook up again.

You CAN do anything!! We have the same goal, to be healthy. Funny, as a nurse I sometimes see people in their 90’s with alltheir faculties. I want to be around for my great grandkids, and maybe even their kids!!

Motivational and inspiring like only YOU can be. Thanks Hanlie. Great post.
My dad is going to be 66 this year and the ‘only’ condition he suffers from is high blood pressure, which I think is very very common and easily controllable. He’s healthy and reasonably active. I’m aiming for a similar health profile

I am lucky to have very good female examples in my family, my mom and my gran who died of natural causes at the age of 96.
Both of them lead or led very active lives. My mom at the age of 62 runs half marathons, eats mostly veggies or fruit and eats hardly any processed food. Unless you call Gin or wine a processed food (she loves to party)
My gran almost up until her death would walk up Arther’s Seat in Edinburgh and then go swimming every day. She also grew a lot of her own food and never ate processed food.
I hope as I age I age as they have. I might need to up my exercise routine a bit-which is about to happen.
