Sue from eLuckypacket, an expat community blog for South Africans all over the world, had this excellent idea:

A POSTCARD SWAP
I loved the idea so much, that I’m filching it! And it’s not even Friday! I’m such a rebel!
Here’s how it works:
You let me know in the comments or via email (hanlie at fertilehealthy dot com) that you want to take part. Just give me a general idea of where you live – New York, Vermont, Denmark, Australia, etc.
I will then randomly select pairs of you to exchange postcards with one another. I will send the other person your email address and the two of you can then exchange postal addresses.
You then buy a postcard depicting your city or area and send it to the other person, while they send you one of their city or area (this is why I would like you to let me know where you’re situated so that you can get a postcard that is from a different country or part of your country – “random” being a flexible term, after all). My readers are quite diverse (Juice Feasters, Healthy You Challengers, friends, fertility buddies, etc.), so you may be exchanging postcards with someone you don’t know at all.
I would like each of us to write a inspirational quote, message or blessing on the back of the postcard. Something that will make the recipient feel special and blessed.
And when you get your postcard, you can post the picture and the message on your blog so that we can all see it. Only one person will have your details (real name and address), so your privacy will not be compromised.
How about it? It should be fun! Better than the the bills we normally get in the mail, don’t you think? And it won’t break the bank…
Ps. You don’t have to be a blogger, or a girl, to take part!

loved the idea…..count me in
We did something like this on a message board I was on. Every month we exchanged cards. Was a blast! Count me in ( as long as I get your address too *grin*) Montana, USA
