What I consumed today:
- 250 ml warm water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper
- 500 ml Barleylife
- 250 ml Herbal Fiberblend
- 250 ml beetroot, apple
- 1 liter grapefruit, pear, romaine
- 2 liter spinach, grapefruit, celery, cucumber
- water
- MSM
- Flaxseed Oil
Exercise: None
Energy levels: I have been getting by with 4-5 hours sleep each night! I just don’t really get tired.
Positive Changes:
- My skin is soft and smooth all over, without the use of body lotion.
- I no longer need to use deodorant, even in this heat!
- I am no longer retaining water
- My hair and body stay clean longer
- My face is no longer oily.
- My latest pimple outbreak is healing nicely.
- My hands are healing
- I’m having the best period ever!
Detox symptoms:
- My tongue is only slightly coated now
Food cravings: Just my grapefruity green juice. I’m obsessed with the stuff at the moment! I’m going to miss it for the next few days…
Self Care:
- Body brushing
- Contrast showers
Emotions: I had a happy, upbeat day!
Thoughts on the Day:
- I love doing Pilates and I adore aqua aerobics. But I won’t be participating in those two activities this week, because I am starting my liver cleanse tomorrow. I have to do it soon anyway (since I can’t find the Breakstone Tea locally), and I won’t be exercising for five days during the cleanse, so rather than restarting my training now and then having to stop it again in the near future, I’m getting all the obstacles out the way. I will also be doing my first enema tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!
- Tonight was the first episode of the new season of American Idol. We normally have two episodes per week, until we’re caught up on the week of the finale. Craig and I love American Idol! I have no idea what I’m going to knit tomorrow evening, because I finished my latest pair of socks tonight. I can’t just sit and do nothing in front of the TV! Every single wooden hanger in this house is already covered. Somebody please stop me before I start knitting toilet roll cosies! Maybe I can wheedle enough money out of Craig for some more sock wool! Alternatively you can click on, or even read, my Published Articles.
- Pepper is not with us tonight. I had to drop her off at the vet this afternoon so that she can be spayed in the morning. The other cats, especially Lavis, are quite out of sorts over her absence.
- Did I mention that I am having the best period ever? Do you know what that means? It means that I’m more fertile and more healthy than last month this time! And that is good news.
- Today was day 40. In Biblical terms, forty is the number of trial and testing. In Noah’s time it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. The Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. Jesus was tempted by Satan for 40 days. My first 40 days of juice feasting has certainly been a test of my resolve to finally walk the walk. I have been talking the talk about health and diet for years, but my flesh has always let me down. Juice feasting for me is a way of joining my body and spirit, making me strong enough to overcome the obstacles and finally reach for my dreams. I am proud of myself for coming this far. I will not stop until my healing is complete. For the first time in my life, I will go the distance on something that I started.
Today’s Picture:
- This is a view from the top of Table Mountain over Table Bay. The peak on the left is called Lion’s Head and the lower hill is Signal Hill, from which a cannon, the Noon Gun, is still fired every day at noon. In the days when Cape Town was a stop-over for European ships to load fresh food and water on their journey to India and other eastern ports, the gun signalled to the farmers that a ship had arrived in the bay and they would bring their produce to town.
- In the bay itself you can just make out Robben Island, home of the famous prison where Nelson Mandela spent a large portion of his 27 years’ incarceration.
- The areas around the mountain, hill and peak are posh residential areas. The city center is more to the right, outside this picture.

Hubby and I love American Idol, too.
I hope the flowers come through! Your new blog is lovely, like you. Good luck with your liver cleanse. I just read back a few days and was so impressed with the incredible control and grace you had during your dinner party. Wow..too cook all that food and not taste it..and the wine..really–you are a SUPERSTAR. Congrats on the 30 lbs blog bling! That’s AMAZING! Your last paragraph was beautiful..keep going the distance. WOW 40 days! Also, I particularly enjoyed the 40 references! How very interesting..Have a great day.
You Rock, Hanlie…. way to go….and you are so spirited…its contagious …..
Hi Hanlie – lovely blog! Please email me back I want to ask you something. Thanks love!
Hanlie,
You compose your journey so well in words. I can see your journalistic flair!! I admire your commitment too. I have juiced for years now and my 80 year-old parents do it twice daily and have NEVER been in the hospital, ever!!! Not many 80 year old couples can make that claim. They attribute their good health to how well they take care of their body inside and out. Keep up the good work – you will get there!!
